Solo Exhibition at Wall Space Gallery
March 5th - 26th, 2022
Opening Reception: Saturday March 5th 3-5pm
Artist Talk: Thursday March 10th
The concept for the exhibition, Travelling Vicariously: The High Line, stems from two years of sharing photos with a close friend living in New York City. With the intention to travel in March 2020 postponed indefinitely, the concept for the exhibition evolved from an archive of hundreds of images sent to me, with particular attention of the High Line.

Desire Path is the result of months of repetitive outings, in all weather conditions, to gather visual information about the ways in which pedestrians often blaze their own trails. These small, seemingly insignificant features are commonly referred to as desire paths or desire lines, represent unofficial localized pedestrian trails and short cuts that run counter to urban planning offering up an alternative to sidewalks and roadways. These paintings are an ongoing exploration of how we encounter and interact with highly localized environments and how through mimesis, paintings can act out an experience of being in the world. The markings, perspective and scale of the works evoke a sensory interpretation of motion, exploration and uncertainty.
The work was shown as a solo exhibition at the Rotunda Gallery, Kitchener City Hall in September 2019 with the generous support from the Region of Waterloo.
In 2021 four of the works were collected by Global Affairs Canada.
The paintings are currently available at WallSpace Gallery, Ottawa.

MFA Thesis Exhibtion: Restrictions of Routine, University of Waterloo, ON, 2018 April 12-28th, 2018.
Restrictions of Routine, is a series of paintings completed in conjunction with my MFA Thesis. The work is a response to my observations of intersections and construction sites as I ran along the urban peripheries of the City of Waterloo. The dominant theme tying these paintings together is a struggle between internal and external obstacles, obstructions such as traffic cones or construction fencing that routinely force us to readjust our routine path. The convenience of a once familiar route is taken for granted, yet when disrupted we must adapt to often confused visual markers, whether by taking an alternate route or slowing down and moving through the disruption. As a series of interconnected works, the paintings at once map my observations of the urban environment and evoke my movements through these often contested spaces.
I would like to thank Ivan Jurakic, Director / Curator of the University of Waterloo Art Gallery, for his contribution to the exhibition.
